How to Move to Mexico
How to Move to Mexico
In view of the border problems we are experiencing, we need to look at the immigration procedures of other countries, especially those sending many citizens here. Since Mexico is sending many and is nearby - which appeals to many who would like to maintain relationships here with friends and family - it makes sense to examine its policies first.
Many Americans do live in Mexico. As a vacationer, a lengthy trip to the mountainous San Miguel de Allende introduced me to a city that had so many American retirees I recall the three largest groups had so many members, each had its own little theater group.
They all knew one another and there was much interaction. The groups were made up of ethnic/religious relationships.
To obtain approval to live in Mexico, a retiree must prove to have at least $292,858 invested or at least $7,321.47 in monthly income after taxes.
One can also move there by buying property which is technically illegal for non-Mexican citizens but can be done with some degree of rigmarole.
Canada
On the other hand, Canada is also close. Their process can take up to two years. One must submit proof of work experience, plus other documentation. Americans can be luckier if they have close relatives in Canada like a parent or child. Applicants can also look for work permits if their occupation in on a list of needed employees. The permits are for two to three years but can be renewed. If one is ready and able to open a business they can fairly quickly do so and start the visa process later.
Europe is actually attracting more than these two, but we are out of space. Look for a Part 2 at a later date.
